Ideas For Decorating A Christmas Tree In Mackenzie Childs

I have decided to have some fun with Christmas decorating this year and switch things up a bit.  I adore MacKenzie-Childs Courtly Check designs and try to replicate what they do. So this year, I have made my version of a MacKenzie Childs Christmas Tree complete with ornaments in Courtly Check design.

Here is a hint on what I did with my tree.

This is a tutorial of how I made my Courtly Check  ornament balls.

Supplies needed are:
Mod Podge (Or you can make your own with Elmer's Glue and Water)
Black and White Tissue Paper (I found mine at a garage sale, so I don't know where to find this)
White Ornament Balls (I got mine at Hobby Lobby)
Diamond Dust (Found in the Christmas craft aisle and only during Christmas at Hobby Lobby)
Paint brushes
Clips or clothes pins
Hangers

I cut the tissue paper in strips, painting on the Mod Podge first, then laying on the tissue paper one strip at a time. I then painted over the strip with Mod Podge before moving on to the next strip. This allowed me to smooth down the paper.

When the whole ball is covered with tissue paper, paint on a generous layer of Mod Podge. Then sprinkle with the Diamond Dust.  HINT: As shown in the photo above, I used the paint brush end of a small brush to thread through the ornament holder to be able to grip it better while working with it.

After each ornament was sprinkled with the Diamond Dust, they needed to hang to dry. So this is where you'll get real creative. I used an old wire hanger from our basement pipes. I left the paintbrushes threaded in the ornament hanger and used clips to hold the brush until dry. Once dry, you just hang and admire your work. The Diamond Dust hides a lot of the sins of where the squares on the tissue paper did not line up correctly.

To add to the look, I made this wooden hand painted stockings that I made for my family in the courtly Check design. You can see the post I did on that HERE.

Stay close, I will show you my whole tree tomorrow!
